Being a fun, student friendly city goes hand in hand with having a great nightlife. Although the legendary Reading Rooms may have closed for good, the Dundee nightlife still has a lot to offer.

The Speedwell Bar
Moving on from the student union, welcome to the Speedwell. Affectionately known as Mennie’s by locals after its former landlady.
The perfect interlude between the student union bar and the rest of Dundee nightlife. Mennies has been a first stop before heading to Dundee’s nightclub scene for many students over the years and we’re sure it’ll be welcoming you through its doors and to its bar soon.
Art Bar
Not only popular with students because it's a stone's throw away from the University of Dundee, but also its cool outdoor area. Perfect if you’re wanting something a little more chilled and intimate. The regular open mic nights which are at the heart of the city's independent music scene. Don’t let that fool you though, the many resident DJ’s know how to get the party vibes going.
The Wine Press
As Dundee’s only wine bar we have to give it an honourable mention. Positioned right by City Square it’s the perfect place to grab a quiet drink before heading to Dundee’s nightclubs. The drinks take centre stage with a huge array of wines on offer, along with a good selection of beers and spirits.
Aura Nightclub
Aura Nightclub is Dundee’s largest nightclub with an amazing sound system, resident DJ, VIP area, student nights and online booking available.
Underground
Renowned for their unrivalled student nights, Underground is hailed as one of the best nightclubs in Dundee.
Located right in the heart of the city centre just over the road from the Dundee Rep Theatre, it’s hard to miss. With a night and genre to suit everyone, music alternates from chart & student anthems to R&B and Hip Hop. You can even register for a guestlist entry online for free.
Club Tropicana/Aura
Club Tropicana, Scotland’s (not just Dundee’s) best loved retro night, is filled with 80’s and 90’s classics. Aura on the other hand regularly hosts guest dj’s, celebrity guests and special events.
Together every Wednesday the unlikely duo join forces to host the ever-popular, regular sell-out student night “#LIQWED”.
Fat Sams
One of Scotland's largest live music venues. Not only does Fat Sams regularly host club nights, it also has an array of gigs, and other events. With resident DJ’s catering to different music tastes it's a real mix-bagged venue, with a lot to offer (including ticket and drink discounts for students).
Duck Slattery’s Showbar
Known as Dundee's biggest song and dance along, Ducks isn’t your typical night out. Described as “something for everyone whether you’re 18 or 80” it’s another venue that hosts a varied amount of events, gigs and club nights.
If you weren't convinced already, they’re also launching their very own student night: Frat Wednesdays. If you’re not tired out at the end of the night, they’ll even offer you discounted entry to some of the other venues that made it onto this list.
Covid passports: From October 1st a double vaccine will be required by law to enter nightclubs and other large scale events. Before heading out in Dundee be sure to keep up to date with current restrictions and policies.
